LINZ engaged Grant Thornton New Zealand to modernise some of our websites to improve stability, scalability, cost efficiency, and to allow more frequent updates to run at the speed of our business. This was achieved with the assistance of Amazon Web Services’ (AWS) CodePipeline and CloudFormation products to provide automated release alongside other critical AWS services. LINZ is now able to provide the information customers need more reliably and at scale as workload demands; costs are also minimised through streamlined and efficient environment management. The team at Grant Thornton worked well with the internal team at LINZ and our other providers; we were able to leverage their skills, AWS design and deployment knowledge to meet the LINZ business requirements. We reached our desired position to get the best out of our website implementation on AWS.

“At LINZ, our business processes and updates are dependent upon systems interacting efficiently, that is, quickly and accurately. The opportunity to lift this efficiency baseline using automation was identified, and Grant Thornton was engaged to help us design and implement system integrations to enhance our business process efficiency. The systems in scope were a set of third-party applications and SaaS services that are already part of the LINZ digital operations, along with the additional need to seamlessly maintain future integration needs and scale. The automation solution leveraged the AWS API Gateway, Lambda and Step Function products and services to form a new integration framework that successfully automates the transformation of data and integration workflows to underpin the associated LINZ business processes. Human intervention is no longer required in the scoped processes, which is a great return. The Grant Thornton team gelled well with the LINZ internal team and stakeholders as well as other third-party providers at LINZ and provided a positive and engaging edge to the project. We [LINZ] were able to leverage the GT AWS design and deployment knowledge and experience in technical project delivery to meet our business requirements, on time with benefits being realised - including reaching our desire to get automation serving LINZ and know that we now have a sound blueprint for future API integrations in place.”

A digital services company based in New Zealand and offshore had a requirement to secure, optimise and maintain an existing AWS footprint through a period of change. This involved implementation of AWS best practice on the security and access control fronts to ensure only those entitled to access data had access. Use of AWS Cost explorer was also employed to identify and implement cost optimisation. AWS DynamoDB, EC2, and Cognito services were updated and implemented to provide access to business data to those that required it. Security groups and NACLS were reviewed and updated to more concisely control the access. Grant Thornton were responsive and knowledgeable which enabled us to maintain the pace of change we needed while minimising spend and maintaining security and availability.
