Learning and development

So you’ve completed your degree, but your education doesn’t end there. You need to align yourself with a company that knows how fundamental learning and development is to your progress in the industry.

We offer programmes tailored for different levels within the business, as well as extensive support for those striving to become CA qualified. We provide comprehensive support in the following ways:

  • Payment of fees
  • In-house study workshops
  • Paid study leave
  • Mentors from graduate level
  • Targeted training sessions
  • Customised competencies
  • Additional material designed to clarify the NZICA process.

Induction

Your first few weeks with us will be spent in our national induction programme. This is a great opportunity to meet fellow graduates and to learn about the inner workings of Grant Thornton. You’ll be given mock client excercises so that by the time the ‘real’ work starts everyone has a fair idea of what is required. You’ll meet your team, spend time with their partners, learn about the other divisions and find out more about the firm in general.

Our audit graduates spend an additional week in Sydney to continue their specific audit training.

Buddy system

You’ll meet your buddy on the first day of induction. They’ll help ease the transition into your new working environment – this can involve anything including how to make great flat whites with the espresso machine. Buddies provide you with a network so you can integrate into the firm as seamlessly as possible.

Mentor programme

Your mentor will provide assistance as you work to achieve your CA qualification and advance your career. Mentoring programmes operate throughout a number of levels, allowing team members the opportunity to further develop themselves and talk through any issues that may arise with a more senior person. We encourage you to maximise the time spent with your mentor so you can realise your full potential.
